Cool Helium Plasma (J Plasma) Facelift Treatment by Bovie

Tag Archives: Treatment

J-Plasma is a nonsurgical medical spa treatment that is ideal for people seeking to mitigate signs of facial and neck aging as well as provide loose facial skin with a subtle lift. Rejuvenate Medical Spa, led by Dr. Bijan Farah, provides Cool Helium Plasma facelift treatment to patients in Encino, Sherman Oaks, San Fernando, Calabasas, Woodland Hills, Tarzana, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding communities. Advantages of J-Plasma Experts concur that undergoing J-Plasma is similar to pushing a “reset” switch on the facial skin. Surgical procedures such as traditional facelift surgery can lift and tighten facial skin. However, many patients do not want to undergo invasive surgical procedures. The non-surgical J-Plasma med spa treatment for skin resurfacing can significantly reduce the appearances of wrinkles, fine lines, creases, and pigmentation on the face. In addition, the provider can use the same device to make the neck and under eye skin smoother and tauter. J-Plasma finds its foundation in gas plasma technology. This technology is superior to laser resurfacing. The treatment provider may advise the patient to undergo this treatment of the full face as well as the neck area. But they may also deliver spot treatments of the neck and jowl area, eyes, and mouth. J-Plasma is undertaken as a single session in-office treatment under only oral or tumescent anesthesia.

J-Plasma Procedure

While J-Plasma is a skin resurfacing treatment, it also delivers ionized energy to the uppermost layer of the skin. This helps the skin to peel offering the patient a dazzling, new skin layer. This new layer of skin is tighter, smoother, and brighter. J-Plasma is a robust treatment for the tightening of facial tissues when it is used underneath the skin (subdermally). The treatment provider delivers helium gas and electrical energy to the skin through a procedure similar to using a precise airbrush. This facilitates the precise delivery of “cool plasma.” This causes the skin to peel and contract when applied from outside. However, when it is used subdermally, it provides the patient with an entirely skin tightening impact.   The procedure does not cause significant discomfort and is undertaken using a local anesthetic. In addition to applying numbing cream to the treatment area, the provider may also give the patient oral medications and use other measures to ensure that they remain comfortable during the treatment.

Why choose J-Plasma Dermal Skin Resurfacing?

Patients choose J-Plasma med spa procedure for skin revitalization due to the following reasons:
  • Excellent results with a minimally invasive procedure
  • Comfortable in-office procedure
  • Time taken for the treatment is only about an hour
  • Performed under local anesthesia
  • Almost no visible scarring or incisions

What is Sub-dermal Skin Tightening?

In traditional facelift surgery, the patient undergoes significant recovery duration, and there exists a possibility of scarring. But J-Plasma powered sub-dermal skin tightening allows an experienced treatment provider to administer the procedure in a manner that is minimally invasive. In this treatment, the provider will place tiny incisions underneath the chin and behind the ears to ensure that any scarring remains discreet. J-Plasma is a state of the art energy device which combines the unique attributes of cold helium plasma and radio frequency (RF) energy to rejuvenate skin tissue in a med spa setting. Helium plasma helps focus RF energy for better control of tissue effect. This offers targeted treatment which effectively eliminates the possibility of damage to the surrounding healthy tissue. Rejuvenate Medical Spa, led by the successful Dr. Bijan Farah, provides Cool Helium Plasma skin resurfacing treatment to patients in Encino, Sherman Oaks, San Fernando, Calabasas, Woodland Hills, Tarzana, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding locations across the landscape.

J-Plasma Advantages

J-Plasma poses a low risk of trauma to the surrounding tissue due to the following reasons:
  • Reduced lateral and depth of energy spread
  • The length of the plasma stream is controllable precisely at the micron level
  • Decreased smoke, odor, and eschar
  • No possibility of conductive currents through the patient
  • The treatment is effective on various types of tissues

J-Plasma Procedure

Plasma can be developed by adding energy to a gas similar to the manner in which a liquid can be excited into a gaseous state. J-Plasma utilizes helium gas which goes through an energized electrode, to produce a focused low-current cold plasma stream. This process can be extended as well for an improved cutting effect. J-Plasma offer targeted delivery and minimal thermal spread. This enhances surgical as well as non-surgical med spa treatment in a wide array of specialties and procedures. J-Plasma has been proven to be safe and predictable in multiple ablative skin resurfacing treatments. In such treatments, targeted energy delivery and minimal thermal spread to the surrounding tissues is crucial for controlled tissue ablation.

Scar Revision with J-Plasma

J-Plasma enables the controlled and delicate elimination of keloids and scars. It allows the lesion to blend almost seamlessly into the normal surrounding tissue. The advantages of scar revision with J-Plasma include:
  • A decrease in the size of the scar
  • Normal hue and smoothness restoration in the surrounding tissue
  • Proven to offer a decreased hyperpigmentation risk

Use of Helium Gas

Helium is the lightest of the stable, noble gases. Therefore, it can be ionized at very low energy. This offers a single modality that is capable of cutting, coagulating and ablating with remarkable flexibility. Helium plasma has a unique ability to adapt itself to the broad requirements of various surgical procedures ranging from debulking of disease on and around vital structures to cutting and lysis of thick tissue. Significantly, J-Plasma is the only device that can achieve this.

J-Plasma’s skin rejuvenation effects are noticeable immediately. The skin underneath the outermost layer is visibly smoother. The skin undergoes a dramatic transformation with the elimination of aberrations such as fine lines and wrinkles achieving a luminescent glow. J-Plasma is also effective on other imperfections of the face such as irregular pigmentation, acne scars, sun spots, melasma, as well as age spots.

J-Plasma Enrollment in Clinical Study

Bovie Medical Corporation, the developer of J-Plasma, has announced that it has engaged the first patient in an Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) clinical study in the US. The study should help establish J-Plasma as a widely accepted skin rejuvenation treatment. Judicious Rejuvenate Medical Spa receives patients from Encino, Sherman Oaks, San Fernando, Calabasas, Woodland Hills, Tarzana, Los Angeles, CA, and other suburbs and neighborhoods in this region of The Golden State for Cool Helium Plasma skin resurfacing.   See all Medical Spa Non-Surgical Procedures Dr. Bijan Farah performs on patients in Los Angeles, Encino, Sherman Oaks, San Fernando, Calabasas, Tazana, Woodland Hills, CA, and surrounding communities. Schedule a consultation now.

Nail infection fungus treatment

What can you expect from the procedure?

ClearSteps Laser Onychomycosis (nail infection) before after phototsOne day before the procedure it is important to remove all nail polish and decorations. The procedure itself involves passing the laser beam over the infected nails and surrounding skin tissue. A single procedure session usually takes approximately 35-45 minutes for 5-10 nails. The required number of procedures will vary depending on the severity of the infection. Procedure times may vary, so please consult your physician for more information. Most patients describe the procedure as being comfortable with the nail feeling warm during the procedure. Following the procedure your nail may feel warm for a few minutes. There is a possibility of transient slight discoloration of the nail after procedure. Most patients can resume normal activities immediately. The majority of patients show improvement after a single procedure session. Successful procedure will result in a growth of a new, healthy nail. Due to slow growth of the nail, it may take up to 1 year to see an entirely clear nail. After the procedure you will need to continue with home care techniques in order to reduce the chance of recurrence of the infection as advised by your physician. There is a chance for reinfection due to the presence of causative agents everywhere in our environment.

What do the clinical studies say?

Several studies have been published on the subject. 1-5 A majority of patients receiving laser procedure for onychomycosis showed improvement in the percent of nail clear of infection. A clinical study 2 showed improvement in the nail clear of infection in 95% of patients after a 3 month period. The amount of improvement you may experience in your particular case is dependent on your individual circumstances and should be discussed with your physician.

Onychomycosis, or nail infection, is a persistent fungal infection of the nail bed, matrix or plate. It is the most common nail disorder in adults, accounting for one third of all fungal skin infections and up to 50 percent of all nail diseases. Toenails are affected more often than fingernails. The infection can cause nails to become yellow or discolored. Advanced infection can cause the nail to become thick, brittle and separate from the nail bed. It can also cause discomfort when wearing shoes or walking. This post provides information about the causes of onychomycosis and available procedure options. The benefits, disadvantages and risk of each procedure option is discussed. Your medical condition and procedure should be discussed with your doctor.

What is ClearSteps?

ClearSteps is a revolutionary method for providing temporary increase in clear nail in patients with onychomycosis in a patient-friendly and quick way with Nd:YAG laser light, which passes evenly throughout the depth of effected nail and skin tissue. The clinical testing reviewed by FDA has not demonstrated this light based therapy as a permanent treatment of the fungus that causes Onychomycosis. Based on clinical testing, you may see a temporary improvement in the appearance of your nails. Please be aware that this change of appearance of your nails may not be permanent and may require additional treatment or other therapies.

What is the cause of onychomycosis (nail infection)?

The causative agents of onychomycosis include dermatophytes (fungi that invade only dead tissues of the skin, nails, or hair), nondermatophyte moulds, and rarely, yeasts of the Candida species. The dermatophytes Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes are the most common causative pathogens of onychomycosis. The overall prevalence of onychomycosis ranges from 2 to 14 percent.

Where can you get onychomycosis?

Onychomycosis is caused by contact with infective agents (e.g. dermatophytes). Since dermatophytes are present everywhere in our environment, everyone is at risk for infection. Common sources for infection include public showers, swimming pools, nail spas and gyms. Nail trauma and tight fitting shoes can also lead to infection. Factors that increase the risk of nail infection are increasing age, poor health and genetic susceptibility.

What are the symptoms of onychomycosis?

One or more of the following symptoms may indicate that you suffer from onychomycosis: • Distorted or thickened nails • Discolored nails • Bushings • Yellow streaks under the nail • White streaks or spots on the nail surface • Brittle, crumbly or ragged nail • Nails separated from the underlying skin • Buildup of debris (nail fragments, skin) under the nail

What are the procedure options for onychomycosis?

Current procedure options for the procedure include  procedure. Topical drugs are less effective in treating onychomycosis and restoring clear nails. The drugs are applied directly to the nails on a daily basis for a period of up to 12 months. In some cases, the procedure is ineffective because the drug cannot pass through the nail to reach the infection. There are no significant adverse effects. Systemic (oral) drugs can be very effective in treating onychomycosis and restoring clear nails and are usually taken for a period of 6 to 12 weeks. Adverse effects associated with systemic antifungal therapy may include headache, skin rash, upset stomach and diarrhea. Serious adverse effects include heart failure and liver damage.  Weekly blood tests may be required to monitor the liver function. These drugs are not used for patients who have liver disease or are in poor health. Laser procedure is shown to temporarily restore clear nails. Most patients experience at least some degree of improvement. During the procedure most patients report a warm feeling in the laser-irradiated area and are able to resume normal activities immediately. No significant adverse effects were reported in the studies. 1-5 No single procedure is effective in all patients and every procedure carries with it its own risks and benefits.
