Microneedling

What is Fractional Collagen Induction?

Sometimes referred to as “natural collagen induction therapy” or “microneedling”, fractional collagen induction is an advanced rejuvenation technique that literally activates your body’s ability to heal itself to combat the visible manifestations of aging on your skin.  Your skin contains two critical proteins that give it the natural elasticity and glow we associate with youth—collagen stimulates the growth of new cells, while elastin gives our skin its firmness and elasticity.  Unfortunately, as we age, we naturally begin to lose these proteins, causing our skin to lose its lifted, taut appearance.  Wrinkles and fine lines begin to develop, and the skin starts to take on a rough, tired, worn-out appearance that overshadows the youth and vitality we feel within.

How Fractional Collagen Induction Works

Step 1: Creates thousands of tiny “wounds” in the skin to stimulate the body's own healing capabilities

Step 2: Breaks up the aging strands of collagen and elastin

Step 3: Forces the body to produce new collagen and elastin strands

This process naturally repairs the texture and tautness of the skin, restores lost volume, and enhances your skin’s natural, youthful glow.  Fractional collagen induction can be effective for individuals of all skin types and colors.  It is safe and effective anywhere the signs of aging have become obvious, even fragile areas such as the eyes, mouth, and neck.  It is an excellent rejuvenation technique for anyone seeking to repair fine lines and wrinkles, tighten loose and lax (sagging) skin, smooth out rough texture and uneven pigmentation, and reduce the appearance of acne scars and stretch marks.

Fractional collagen induction is a comfortable and effective skin rejuvenation service.  However, it is critical that any procedures involving piercing the skin be conducted in a safe, sterile facility such as Rejuvenate Medical Spa, located in Encino, California.  The experienced medical staff, led by Medical Director Bijan Farah, MD and Tanya Smit, NP of Aesthetic Medicine, will ensure that you receive a customized rejuvenation plan that puts the best state-of-the-art collagen induction technology to work for you.  At Rejuvenate Medical Spa, you can rest easy knowing that your safety and comfort are our top priority, and that we are dedicated to allowing your inner youthful vitality to shine through to the world.

About the Procedure

During the procedure, an electric device is passed over the damaged skin and tiny, medical-grade needles repeatedly penetrate through the epidermis (outermost layer of the skin) to a pre-determined depth.  The act of creating microscopic channels in the aging skin stimulates the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin to heal these “wounds," and the post-treatment outcome is brighter, more youthful skin! The treatment is customized for each individual patient, as the required depth and frequency of needle penetration depends on the extent of damage and the patient’s desired results.  For the treatment of scarring and stretch marks, deeper penetration and a topical anesthetic may be required.  Some patients may benefit from the addition of medical grade skincare products immediately after the procedure, as the channeling effect of the microneedling allows for deeper penetration of products, stimulating advanced hydration and skin protection during the healing process.

Post-Procedure Details

Fractional collagen induction does not require a significant recovery period, and patients can resume their normal activities immediately.  Patients may experience some mild redness and swelling, almost like a sunburn, and there may be minor pin-point bleeding and/or bruising; however, any side effects should diminish within 24-28 hours.  Patients should avoid sun exposure after treatment, or protect the skin with a zinc-based sun block. Initial improvements in the appearance and condition of your skin will be noticeable as soon as the side effects subside, but your full results will only be visible after a few months, as the benefits of the wound healing process stimulated by the procedure take effect.  To maintain and maximize your results, fractional collagen induction can be repeated every four to six weeks.
