New Report From American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) – Only Med-Spa Related Items
Introduction
A recent report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), surveying the progress and consumer trends in the Plastic Surgery Sector, found ample reports suggesting the development for the year ahead. With over 7,000 members, the Society is accepted as a leading source on cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.
"The demand for plastic surgery continues to grow as medical advancements are made and technology improves resulting in a wider array of options for patients," said ASPS President Scot Glasberg, MD.
The below report summarizes the key findings and is an indicator of the preferences rated as the top five cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures of 2014 and includes items available in the med spa:
Botox - This minimally invasive cosmetic surgery has shot up by 6 percent within the last year, and has sky rocketed in demand by 743 percent since the year 2000. It is also rated as one of the top five cosmetic minimally invasive procedures of 2014, boasting of anti-aging benefits with over 6.7 million procedures recorded.
Tissue fillers – Leading second in the top 5 cosmetic procedures, derma fillers were seen to increase by 3 percent, with 2.3 million in 2014, as compared to 2.2 million, as recorded in 2013. Out of the various choices available, Radiesse leads in anti-aging consumer trends followed by collagen and Porcine/bovine based fillers .The choice of human-based fillers such as Cosmoderm, cosmoplas, Cymetra have seen the most decrease, by -83 percent.
Microdermabrasion – Although one of leading treatments of choice, microdermabrasion was down by 9 percent in 2014, with 881,905 in 2014, as compared to 970,343 in 2013.
Chemical peels - 1.2million procedures in 2014, show a 3 percent increase when compared to 2013.
Laser hair removal – A popular choice, with an increase of 3 percent from 2013, showing an annual increase of 1.1 million
Cellulite reduction-According to the report, cellulite reduction has seen a slow but steady decrease with 29,318 recorded in 2013, to 29,243 in 2014.Butt augmentation-The comparison of the present year from 2013
One of the fastest growing procedures to be noted is butt augmentation, where fat grafting was seen to jump up to 15 percent. Butt Implants increased by 1,863 procedures resulting in an 98 percent increase. Butt lifts as well, were seen to increase by 44 percent from 2013 to 2014.
Plastic surgery among men- According to the ASPS”s 2014 report – Men partaking in plastic surgery seem to rise, with a special focus on pectoral implants and male breast reductions. For pectoral implants – the procedures have increased at a rate of 205 percent, following which 29 percent was seen as an increase for male breast reductions.
Conclusion
In terms of beauty and minimal evasive treatments – the ASPS found that there was an overall increase of minimal evasive surgeries where the figures showed 13.4 million in 2013, but in 2014 – the result was 13.9. Out of these results cosmetic results were seen to rise by 1 percent, to nearly 1.7 million procedures in 2014.
