What are Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections?

What are Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections | Hair Restoration | EncinoPlatelet rich plasma (PRP) injection is an advanced, minimally invasive hair restoration technique that has shown tremendous promise. The med spa technique involves the use of the body’s natural growth factors to regenerate damaged hair follicles to enable re-growth of hair in treated areas. PRP injections can sometimes be combined with low level laser therapy for more robust hair restoration. Rejuvenate Medical Spa is a premier provider of PRP injections. The medical spa provides cutting edge aesthetic and anti-aging solutions to patients in Encino, Sherman Oaks, San Fernando, Calabasas, Woodland Hills, Tarzana, CA, and surrounding locations.

How does PRP Work?

For a long time, researchers believed that follicles that had stopped producing hair were completely dead. However, recent studies have shown that in many cases these unproductive follicles are merely dormant, injured or compromised, and may still be revived for long-term hair re-growth. This is where the role of PRP hair restoration med spa therapy comes in. The platelet rich plasma within the patient’s own body contains powerful growth factors. These growth factors can be injected into the affected areas to activate adult stem cells within the unproductive hair follicles. At the same time, they can promote localized cell regeneration and formation of new blood vessels to feed the revived hair follicles. At Rejuvenate medical spa, Dr. Farah and his team will customize every PRP procedure to meet the unique hair restoration needs of a patient. The medical spa receives patients from Encino, Sherman Oaks, San Fernando, Calabasas, Woodland Hills, Tarzana, CA, and nearby areas.

PRP Procedure

The treatment provider will draw a small amount of blood from the patient’s body, which will be sent through a centrifugal process to separate PRP and activate the growth factors within it. Once the PRP is ready for being injected, a local anesthetic will be applied to the recipient area of the scalp. The provider will inject PRP into the areas with most severe hair loss. The injections will be administered using a very fine gauge needle in a matrix pattern across the scalp. Depending on the patient’s needs, the PRP procedure may be combined with low level laser therapy to achieve more effective outcomes.

Recovery

PRP therapy for hair restoration is a quick and painless in-office procedure with almost no downtime. Any discomfort that follows the treatment, once the effect of the anesthetic is over, can be mitigated with over the counter pain meds. Mild swelling in the forehead area may occur in some patients for a day or two. This will disappear on its own. Aggressive physical activity should be avoided until the swelling has been fully resolved. The patient can resume normal washing of the hair immediately after the treatment. Most patients will be able to return to their workplace or perform their other regular activities immediately after the procedure.

How does Laser Hair Restoration Work?

How does Laser Hair Restoration Work? | Los Angeles | Sherman Oaks Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) has emerged as a popular hair restoration procedure today. LLLT is a completely non-invasive med spa procedure involving no cuts, incisions, injections, or medications. Both men and women who are suffering from hair loss can benefit from this painless treatment. Rejuvenate Medical Spa, led by Dr. Bijan Farah, is a premier provider of LLLT and various other procedures. The medical spa provides LLLT for hair restoration to patients in Encino, Sherman Oaks, San Fernando, Calabasas, Woodland Hills, Tarzana, CA, and surrounding locations.

How does it Work?

LLLT is based on a treatment with “cold” or “soft” lasers to stimulate hair re-growth in the targeted areas of the scalp. These low level lasers do not emit heat, sound or vibration. As a result, it does not cause any tissue injury because of absence of heat. Many patients prefer this gentle med spa solution over surgical lasers or other aggressive hair restoration treatments. Rejuvenate Medical Spa is equipped with the state of the art Sunetics Clinical Bio-Stimulation Laser. This is an in-office procedure, which provides total comfort and convenience to the patients. The patient can simply sit and relax beneath the device while the treatment is performed. The procedure is painless and involves no downtime. Some of the latest medical studies have revealed that low level laser therapy with the Sunetics Laser system produces more pronounced outcomes over shorter periods of time than other low energy laser techniques. Dr. Farah’s medical spa receives patients from Encino, Sherman Oaks, San Fernando, Calabasas, Woodland Hills, Tarzana, CA, and nearby areas for LLLT.

Safe and Proven

The Sunetics laser technology for the treatment of both male and female pattern hair loss received clearance from the FDA in 2013. In the FDA clinical trials, 93 percent of the patients treated with LLLT experienced hair re-growth at an average of 22 hairs per square centimeter. The efficacy of this therapy has been proven in stabilizing hair loss over the entire scalp and re-growing hair in the both the frontal and temporal areas of the scalp. Clinically proven outcomes with LLLT include:
  • Re-growth of hair and acceleration of hair growth in 93 percent of the patients
  • Increase in blood flow from dermis to hair follicle root
  • Stimulation of up to 70 percent of resting or dormant hairs back into active growth cycle
  • Halting the progression of hair loss
  • Improved hair elasticity and strength
  • Augmenting hair follicles to provide fuller, thicker, softer, and shinier hair
  • Repairing and improving hair shaft quality
Patients should note that as with most other non-invasive hair loss treatments, LLLT requires periodic follow-up procedures to maintain the results. Maintenance sessions could involve weekly treatments initially, but the frequency would reduce over time.
